Timely India (timelyindia.com) believes that great journalism reflects the full diversity of the country it covers. India is one of the most diverse nations on earth — in language, culture, religion, caste, gender, geography, and lived experience. Our editorial content must reflect this diversity, and so must the voices behind it.
This Diversity Policy outlines our commitments to diversity and inclusion in our editorial content, our sourcing practices, and our platform as a whole.
Diversity in Editorial Content
We are committed to ensuring that our reporting represents the full spectrum of Indian society. This means:
- We actively seek out and amplify stories from underrepresented communities, regions, and demographics that are often overlooked by mainstream media
- Our coverage includes news and perspectives from all 28 states and 8 union territories of India — not just major metro cities
- We cover communities across all religions, castes, tribes, linguistic groups, and economic backgrounds without bias or favouritism
- We make a conscious effort to include women’s perspectives, youth voices, and the experiences of marginalised communities in our reporting
- We do not publish content that discriminates against or stereotypes any community based on religion, caste, gender, sexual orientation, disability, language, or ethnicity
Diversity in Sourcing
We recognise that who we quote and cite in our articles matters. Our editorial team is encouraged to:
- Seek expert sources from diverse backgrounds — not just from elite institutions or urban centres
- Include voices from rural India, small towns, and regional communities in stories that affect them
- Give equal weight to women experts, Dalit voices, tribal community leaders, and other historically marginalised groups when their perspective is relevant
- Avoid relying exclusively on official government or corporate sources — community voices matter equally
Diversity in Language
Timely India publishes content in both English and Hindi to serve a wider and more diverse readership across India. We recognise that millions of Indians are more comfortable consuming information in their regional or native language, and we aim to expand our language accessibility over time.
Inclusive Language Standards
All content published on Timely India must adhere to inclusive language standards:
- We use gender-neutral language wherever appropriate
- We do not use casteist, racist, or discriminatory slurs in any form, even in direct quotation, unless absolutely necessary for journalistic context and clearly labeled
- We refer to communities by the names they use for themselves, not by labels imposed on them by others
- We are sensitive in our reporting on mental health, sexual violence, disability, and other topics that require careful and respectful language
Our Ongoing Commitment
We acknowledge that diversity and inclusion are not destinations — they are ongoing commitments that require regular reflection and improvement. Timely India will continue to review its editorial practices, sourcing habits, and content standards to ensure we are living up to these values.
Readers who feel our coverage has failed to meet these standards are encouraged to contact us at contact@timelyindia.com with the subject line “Diversity Feedback.”
